Thoughts Before Attending A New School

It is weird to think that I'll be attending a new university next month. Before starting university, I always thought that I would be staying at Thompson Rivers University for four years and graduate with a journalism degree. I had no doubts that I would want to change my educational path, but here I am! I will still be graduating with a degree from TRU, however I am completing my last year at a different school and my credential is a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Communication and Minor in Marketing. Since August, I have had a lot of thoughts and emotions leading up to my start at a new school. Thank you for visiting my blog and let's get into it!

Being a freshmen at Thompson Rivers University, I've already experienced being new to a school. I remember feeling nervous, excited, pleased, enthusiastic, and just optimistic. Coming straight out of high school, I was excited for a change. At high school, there were parts I didn't like and parts I loved, but at least going to TRU I was able to start fresh, explore, and make the most out of my experience! Even though I am about to start my fourth year, a lot of how I am feeling now is the same as how I was feeling in my freshmen year. This month, I made myself familiar with the school's student portal, the classes I will be taking, and have visited the campus a few times. I haven't gone on a tour or have been into every building, but it'll be something I figure out during the first week!

I want the last year of my degree to be memorable, but at the same time I know it will be hard. I naturally put pressure on myself to do well in all my classes. I believe other students put pressure on themselves too, but in my case, it will be heightened this coming year as I will be applying to masters programs. I really want to end off my degree with good grades, but also make myself feel like I am truly a student at the school.

Specifically, I want to:

- Watch UFV's sports team play in the beautiful Abbotsford Centre

- Hopefully do my practicum in UFV's marketing department and learn more about marketing

- Go to campus events, as I've heard their campus life is really good!

- Connect with students that are passionate about marketing and are pursuing similar careers

When I started at TRU, I was convinced I made the best decision. I was enrolled in a journalism program, got to start fresh in a new school and new city, and was able to experience living on my own. However, a lot can change throughout the years and you recognize more of what you want. I am the type of person who likes to imagine, imagine what my life could be like in the future, being successful, and living in a city that is perfect for me. I'm happy with the decision to change schools, excited to go to a completely different school and experience so many new things, and, with hard work, be that much closer to what I imagine my life to be like in the future.
