If you are new to my blog, welcome! My name is Kim and I am a 3rd-year communication and marketing student in BC, Canada. This week's post, as you can probably tell by the title, is about the ways you can keep yourself motivated in college/university. I hope you take away valuable information and thanks for visiting my blog!

As you probably know, people go to university not for the purpose of partying, but to figure out their passions, skills and work towards earning a successful career in the future. It may seem overwhelming to think about how much time university will consume your life, but it's always beneficial to look at the bigger picture. Not doing well in one class may not seem like a big deal at first, but if you think about how that one class contributes to you meeting your degree requirements... you may see it differently. Most students take four or five courses a semester which can be a lot to manage at first, however you will soon start to realize that to be successful you have to develop good time management skills... and those skills will help you graduate. When I am struggling in a class, I try to refocus and remember that the class may seem boring or difficult, but it contributes to me earning my degree which gets me that much closer to my dream career of being a Director of Marketing some day!
Looking at the bigger picture has helped me overcome challenges in some of my classes throughout the years. Another way I keep myself motivated is staying organized. Knowing what notebook is for what course and where specific chapter notes are is always so helpful for when I work on my assignments and study for exams. Having information easily attainable from my textbooks and notebooks makes completing work easier! If it doesn't take you half an hour to find examples or specific information, just think about how much you can get done in a short amount of time!
I personally think that most people in college/university are dedicated to doing what needs to be done to be successful in the future. That being said, surrounding yourself with other motivated students can be a fun way to keep yourself motivated during school. I'm the type of person that can only study alone, but if you are the opposite... getting together with a few students in class that want to succeed just as much as you... can be an effective and fun way to stay motivated!
The last piece of advice I have to staying motivated in university is to not only recognize your achievements, but celebrate them! Sometimes it acts as a "boost" for people to work towards a goal knowing the feeling they will have when they accomplish it and how they want to celebrate. Students pour in hours and hours to complete assignments and study for exams, so if you accomplished the goals you set... have some fun!
