Hello and welcome to my blog! With the start of the academic year, I decided to put together a list of tips on how to develop time management skills this year. If you are a college/university freshmen, you probably will find it hard to balance everything in the beginning... but it does get easier! I hope you enjoy and take away valuable information. Thanks for visiting my blog!

1) Write down deadlines

In my classes, I have had habits of making mental notes of what my professor says is due for next class, next week, etc. At times, I couldn't remember the mental notes I made, which is why I recommend writing down deadlines... whether they are deadlines for a short reading or something worth a percentage of your grade such as an essay or project. With the 4-6 classes you will be taking each semester, it can be stressful to try and remember all your due dates!

2) Stay organized

When I think about staying organized for classes, I think about using a planner to keep track of what I have to get done daily and when my due dates are. However, you can still be organized without physically writing down everything. Everyone uses their phones daily, so making notes on your phone can help you stay organized, as well as keeping notes on your laptop. Staying organized is important, because when the time comes for you to do homework or study you will know exactly what is a priority to get done and be able to schedule your time working accordingly.

3) Find a balance

Having time management skills for school is beneficial to have, however creating a balance between your studies and other areas of your life is just as important. No ones life revolves around just school, so try your best to make time for friends, family, and for yourself. School is important, because of obvious reasons like the amount of money and time invested for the diploma or degree you are working towards... but your quality of life, which involves your family, friends, hobbies, and mental and physical health are important too!

4) Don't wait till the night before

I personally have never waited until the night before to finish an assignment or study for an exam, and that's just because I never want to put myself through so much stress. However, I know people do it, and in order to develop good time management skills... those habits would have to stop. If you keep track of your due dates and schedule your time weekly in order to finish your work before or on the due date, you would avoid so much stress and develop great time management skills that can be useful for not just school, but all areas of your life!

5) Get enough sleep

Falling under #4 is getting enough sleep. To have the energy and concentration to write an essay, work on a project, or study for an exam means you should get a reasonable amount of sleep each night. The weekends are different in that you can go to sleep late and have the luxury of sleeping in. However, during the week you could have 8:30am or 9:30am classes that don't make it possible for you to go to sleep at 12am and feel wide awake the next day. You could have an organized planner and be 100% aware of the work you need to do, but if you're running on around five hours of sleep, you won't be as productive.
