Hello and welcome back to my blog! For those of you who are new to my blog, welcome! My name is Kim and this blog touches on topics about university, advice, and my experiences through written and video content. I am the Marketing Coordinator at Community Futures for the rest of the summer and for the next month I will be sharing my work and experiences throughout my 8 weeks of work. On Thursday, I attended a digital media presentation and learned a lot of valuable information... so I decided to write about the key things I learned and how beneficial it was. I hope you take away valuable information and thanks for visiting my blog!

I was fortunate enough to listen to Cristina Esposto (Sales Director of RTOWN) teach me, along with past clients of Community Futures, the importance, impact, and strategies of digital marketing. With her expertise in promotions, marketing, and print media she brought a high level of knowledge to her presentation. She talked about what social media should be used for, each platform and how it can be used to promote your business, how often to post, when to spend money on social media, SEO, SEM, and the significance of your business' website. I really enjoyed learning:

- that social media shouldn't be used to sell... but used for awareness

- marketing should be user friendly and create an enjoyable device experience

- LinkedIn is good for business to business connections

- Facebook wants to see original content

- social media is a way to highlight your skills and potentials

- websites are your business' digital storefront, so it needs to be quick, mobile responsive, etc.

One thing that stood out to me the most was how important social media is to the survival of a business. In order to reach your target audience, you have to be where they are, whether it is on Facebook, Instagram, TV, Snapchat, etc. With technology becoming more and more advanced, if your business does not have an online presence that is consistent... it won't be good enough. Businesses ten years ago did not need to worry about their online presence and jobs like a Social Media Manger did not exist.
