Hello and welcome back to my blog! For the month of July and August I am the Marketing Coordinator for Community Futures in Kamloops, BC. I decided to write about my job so far and a unique experience I recently had at work. I hope you enjoy reading and thanks for visiting my blog!

I didn't know much about Community Futures when I applied, but I've learned a lot throughout my first two weeks of working. For those of you who do not know, Community Futures Thompson Country is a local non-profit organization that assists entrepreneurs in starting, growing, and selling their businesses. The majority of my work at CFTC this summer consists of creating marketing material for the Junior Dragons Den.

If you have watched Dragons Den, it's pretty much the same thing! Only for this competition it consists of students. The top five students from each school category get partnered with a mentor to help them prepare for their business pitch to the panel of judges (dragons) and perfect their business plans. Thompson Rivers University will be hosting the Junior Dragons Den in April of 2019! I love creating marketing material, so this job has not only been a good learning experience but really fun. What I love most about the Junior Dragons Den is that students get the opportunity to use their creative ideas to make a business plan with professionals and make their ideas into a business.

With this business competition comes decisions of how and when to advertise the event. I got the chance to attend a meeting with CFJC TV on possible event coverage. After the meeting I was given a tour of their radio rooms and behind-the-scenes of where the station films for weather segments, cooking segments, and anchors covering news stories. It was a very exciting and interesting experience to see the news from a different perspective!
