How To Deal With Bullying

Verbal and physical bullying can happen where ever you are, whether it's at school or out in public. Knowing what to do when someone is treating you with disrespect, will go a long way in your life. I have come up with advice based on my own personal experience and from others.
1) Do not accept the bullying
No one deserves to be bullied, no matter what your age, race, colour, background, or religion is. You should feel safe and respected in school and in your daily life. Even if you made a mistake and feel that you deserve a punishment, there are ways to resolve the situation without feeling that you need to be verbally or physically harassed by a person.
2) Tell someone about it
This is easier said then done, but believe me when I say that there is no way for the bullying to stop unless you tell someone about it. If you do not tell someone you are not giving yourself the opportunity to move past this harassment. You never know how bad the bullying can get, as in how far the person will go to made you feel horrible.
3) Stand your ground
You do not deserve the bullying, so why let someone walk all over you? Bullying is something that most of us experience at least once in our lives, so learning how to stand your ground is a skill that will be hard at first but is necessary. Everyone should be treated equally, which I know may not look like it all the time, but it is the truth, so do not think that someone is born better than you and allowed to treat you however he or she wants.
4) Recognize your worth
I'm not going to lie, high school is full of levels of popularity. I have completed my years in high school and all I can say is that none of that matters. How you are treated by others should not be based on how many friends you have or who you are friends with. At the end of the day, you are who you are and should not feel lesser of a person because of it.
The most important piece of advice anyone can tell you is to speak up! Whether that's to your friends, parents, principal, coach, or counsellor. You should never feel embarrassed of how someone is treating you, because it represents their self not you! Telling someone about what you are going through will allow you to put a stop to it.
