IN THIS VIDEO:

1) GET TO SCHOOL EARLY

Giving yourself enough time to find your classroom and get settled will definitely benefit you! The first day can become confusing and hectic and giving yourself at least ten minutes to find your classroom will help you arrive on time!

2) GETTING AROUND

As a first year student at a new school you probably won't know how to get to your homeroom or different classes... so just ask! There will be older students, teachers, and adults working in the office that can point you in the right direction.

3) BRING A FOLDER & PENCIL

On the first day, most schools won't start giving out textbooks and having the students start work. You will however get paper from most of your classes outlining the in class expectations, grading scale, and units, so it would be very helpful to bring one folder to make sure that you don't loose them. Also bringing a pen or pencil on the first day will be helpful because you may have to fill out forms or play a game to get to know others in your classes.

4) LOCKERS

As a first year student you will most likely have a smaller locker than the older students. It may seem horrible at first, but it isn't as bad as it seems. Keep only the necessary items in your locker... like textbooks, notebooks, binders, and a lunch... and it will create more space. Using magnetic containers on the inside of your locker door to store extra school supplies will help create even more storage.

5) CLASSES

You will most likely have at least one class where you don't have a friend. This is going to happen throughout high school, simply because there are so many new students! Having a class without a friend will give you the opportunity to make new friends and get to know people around you. Don't be afraid to start a conversation with someone, or if someone starts a conversation with you... don't be quick to judge, they could end up being one of your friends.

6) WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES

The first day, and especially the first week will require walking around to trying to find your classrooms, so it's best to wear easy and light shoes because you never know how many times you could get lost. You don't want to be that person with four inch heels "slowing down the traffic" of students up and down stairs.
